TRUCK 4 IN SERVICE

As of January 1st, 2025, Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Department’s first ever ladder truck (designated as Truck 4) is officially in service. The process of planning, advocating, funding, designing and training for this moment has taken close to 20 years. While the Bethel Fire Department has a ladder truck down town, this aerial device compliments theirs as it is on a smaller chassis. This allows for placement in tight areas such as driveways. Truck 4’s reach (107’ vertical and 100’ horizontal) also allows for it to reach buildings from the street. Bethel has seen tremendous growth, both residential and commercial, over the last 15-20 years, bringing in bigger and taller buildings. The time has come for additional aerial protection in the north end of Bethel. Truck 4 also functions as a regular fire engine, carrying 500 gallons of water and a 2000 gallon per minute pump.

Truck 4 was originally slated to be built by Pierce Manufacturing as a demo unit, used by Pierce dealers to display to potential customers. Stony Hill leadership were able to secure this specific apparatus for purchase prior to production beginning. This move prevented several years of lead time and and allowed for a significant financial saving. Truck 4 began production in mid summer 2024 and was delivered to our firehouse in later September 2024.

After delivery, members spent an immense amount of time installing equipment, packing hose, and most importantly: training. Members trained on driving and positioning Truck 4 and became well-versed in aerial strategies and tactics.

Truck 4 is Stony Hill’s first new piece of apparatus since the delivery of Engine 1 in 2013. We extend our most heartfelt gratitude to the taxpayers of the Town of Bethel for allowing us to purchase this vital piece of equipment and giving us the opportunity to better protect you and your family.
